Yoga with Live Healing Sounds in Guatemala

3rd Annual Winter Retreat /  Merav Ben Horin and special guest Yotam Silberstein

Please join me for my annual yoga retreat in Guatemala. The retreat will take place on the gorgeous grounds of Villa Sumaya. This beautiful resort and spa is situated on the picturesque shores of  Lake Atitlan, surrounded by breathtaking nature and three volcanos.

Villa Sumaya is built in such a loving, gentle and personal way that respects and integrates both the beautiful nature and the culture its surrounded with.  The staff is diverse and extremely friendly, the food is amazing and the rooms are beautiful, spacious and comfy. Spa treatments available upon request (highly recommended).
Beyond its beautiful landscape this area of Guatemala is known for its fascinating local mayan culture and lovely handmade fabrics and crafts. In between yoga sessions you will have the chance to travel and explore the area.
This yoga retreat is open to all levels. Each practice will have a different theme that will guide you on your exploration on the mat. Our classes take place in a large spacious studio facing the lake and the mountains.
Daily Practice:
Every morning I will offer an optional 1/2 hour pranayma and meditation practice for early birds.
The first class of the day will be more vigorous. I will offer modifications for those of you who are newer to this practice or those of you who want to take it slower and plenty of challenges for those who would like to be challenged. The evening class will be gentle and restorative
Yoga & Live Music:
This year I have a special musician guest on the retreat that will join us for a few classes and accompany the class with live soft guitar and oud sounds. In these classes we will explore the connection between yoga, music and breath and use these tools to move into a deeper state of awareness and relaxation.

The food:

Cafe Sumaya, the Villa’s jewel of a restaurant with a stunning view of the lake, offers an culinary-conscious menu of a vegetarian based eclectic blend of local and international cuisine, created from Guatemala’s cornucopia of fruit and vegetables. for slow food aficionados and eco-epicureans. They also serve chicken and fish upon request.  Baked goods are baked fresh daily. The scent of fresh bread and tortillas is utterly intoxicating! Their juice bar may tempt you to try their delicious raw cacao bliss balls, a strawberry ginger kombucha tea or one of their tropical smoothies.

Accommodations:

Villa Sumaya has nineteen rooms which grant visitors a unique opportunity to bed down in concert with the cosmos under crisp cool comforters, a Mayan-inspired thatched roof, a sheltering sky and a symphony of stars. At Villa Sumaya where earth meets the sky and the stars literally tumble to the horizon, communing with nature, comet-countdowns, sunset-spotting and tequila twilights along with meditative mornings are high on the agenda.

Each room is carefully appointed, with a private bathroom that has all the modern conveniences, and a spacious veranda where the lake is a stage. The veranda showcases the best of Lake Atitlan and Guatemala´s timeless nature and history. In your room you’ll be surrounded by flowing fabrics (the hallmark of Guatemalan artistry), hand-crafted ceramic tiles, wooden furnishings mixed and matched in a down-to-earth trio of adobe browns, indigo blues and stone-washed sienna.
